The Junior League of Nashville (JLN) is an organization of women committed to advancing women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Junior League of Nashville was founded in 1922 by a group of visionary women committed to serving the Nashville community in a volunteer capacity. Today, JLN has almost 1,400 members and remains committed to developing the potential of women as leaders and grassroots volunteers, with a focus on removing obstacles that prevent children from reaching their full potential by addressing the issues of literacy and poverty.
The Junior League of Nashville is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). Of the 295 leagues around the world with a total 125,000 members, the JLN is the 15th largest Junior League in the association. JLN has founded many important Nashville resources, such as the Nashville Children's Theatre, Renewal House, Our Kids, and the JLN Children’s Services at the downtown Nashville Public Library.
Our first community project was the Junior League Home for Crippled Children, founded in 1923 as a rehabilitation hospital for children with polio. In 1970, the Junior League Home moved to Children’s Regional Medical Center at Vanderbilt creating a hospital within a hospital. Today we know this collaboration as the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, which remains a major focus of JLN’s philanthropy and volunteer support to this day.
